The art of reducing The Larwill's footprint

Here at The Larwill Studio we are committed to embedding sustainability into every facet of our daily operations. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey and are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Below are some of the initiatives we have implemented to date.

Dry Amenities

We are delighted to share our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics in our guest rooms. As part of this initiative, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment.

We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. By removing single-use plastic amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request dry amenities made from sustainable bamboo materials by calling or visiting our friendly team at reception.

Large Amenities

As part of our ongoing efforts, we have made the proactive decision to move to large format amenities, replacing our single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles, we are significantly reducing the amount of waste generated by our operations. This commitment aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and reflects our ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in all aspects of our hotel.

Food Waste

At The Larwill Studio, we are committed to reducing food wastage and promoting sustainable practices across our food and beverage outlet and conferencing department. We understand the importance of minimising our environmental impact while delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests. We have eliminated all single-use plastic throughout the entire food and beverage and conferencing departments. We have also made changes to our readily accessible menus to include all dietary requirements and more variety in vegetarian options. Our kitchen is always finding ways to cut wastage and some of the ways they do this is by utilising every bit of cuttings from meat trims, vegetables and fruits and using them for other food essentials.

Recycling

At The Larwill Studio, all hotel waste is separated into co-mingle, cardboard, food waste and general waste, minimising our impact on landfill.  In addition, we have taken a number of steps to further reduce water and embrace a circular system. We have implemented a recycling project with one of our local suppliers where coffee pods will be collected and sent back to be reused as a way of cutting down on the manufacturing of more waste.

We also have a Library nook located at reception where guests and visitors are encouraged to take and replace books. Additionally, any books left behind by guests after their stay are placed within our book nook.

Community Support

We are committed to maintaining strong connections with our local community and give back wherever possible. We are consistently working closely to help provide for families who may be needing to visit Royal Children’s Hospital and donating supplies or accommodation to the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. We have partnered with many local businesses throughout the hotel to ensure we are giving back to our local community and supporting local economy.

Accessibility

The Larwill studio strives to provide accommodation facilities to cater for all abilities. The entrance to the hotel is fitted with hand rails to assist on our front steps, along with an adjacent lift that will take you safely to the reception lobby. Our restaurant is easily accessible with its location being on the ground floor with spacious entry ways and accessible bathroom facilities. We provide designated accessible car parking directly at the lift entrance of the hotel in, with 5 designated spots on 3 levels.

We offer 4 accessible hotel rooms that are wheelchair accessible, have an 82cm entry way and a fully accessible bathroom fit out with all the necessary amenities and facilities one may need. These rooms offer our guests the opportunity to feel at ease knowing they have the appropriate facilities at hand.

We do not accept pets here at the Larwill; however, we are well equipped and trained to alter our services to accommodate those with assistance animals.
