The art of reducing The Watson's footprint

Here at The Watson, we are committed to embedding sustainability into every facet of our daily operations. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey and are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Below are some of the initiatives we have implemented to date.

Dry Amenities

We are delighted to share our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics in our guest rooms. As part of this initiative, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment.

We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. By removing single-use plastic amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request dry amenities by calling room service or visiting our friendly team at reception.

Large Amenities

As part of our ongoing efforts, we have made the proactive decision to move to large format amenities, replacing our single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles, we are significantly reducing the amount of waste generated by our operations. This commitment aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and reflects our ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in all aspects of our hotel.

Recycling

At The Watson, all hotel waste is separated into co-mingle, cardboard and general waste, minimising our impact on landfill.  In addition, we have taken a number of steps to further reduce water and embrace a circular system.

  • We have replaced our water bottles that we provide to our loyalty members with a product called WaterBox. This product is made of sustainably sourced materials and is a plant-based product therefore we no longer supply any single use plastic water bottles.
  • We have transitioned to sustainable key cards for access into guest rooms. These are made from different wood materials like bamboo and black walnut. Using these cards reduces the use of plastic and is better for the environment as the wood that is used is biodegradable.
  • We offer Advanced Saver rates which include a weekly housekeeping service. The reduction of housekeeping services reduces wastage such as water, energy and cleaning supplies, minimising the environmental impact associated with daily cleaning activities.

Community Support

We are committed to maintaining strong connections with our local community and give back wherever possible.

  • We support socks for a safe house via the DV Collective. We are supporting the fight against Domestic and Family Violence by purchasing these socks as loyalty gifts.
  • We support Sam’s Popcorn business by providing the amenity for our loyalty guests’. Sam is a local high school student who started his own popcorn business when he was 10 years old.
  • We donate our lost property and unwanted bedding to St Vincent De Paul so the items can be re-utilised by people in need.
